    Isn't it:
    Tom told me that he could NOT afford another divorce.
    ?

    (Not sure if this is the original sentence or not - am commenting on the English translation from the Italian)

    @CK

    actually as stated before, nothing should be changed but rather unlinked otherwise we arrive to that situation where we need to ask people to change their sentences in cascade and at one moment or an other, one sentence owner will not answer, letting the wrong "translation link" to be present

    Unlinking and adding a comment on the sentence that have been unlinking asking to add a translation that matched the new version is better because no translation is better than a wrong one in the sense it will mislead no-one,
    and anyway the sentence was to be rewritten, so there's no extra-work, and last but not least, that certainly create a new "group" of sentences with a slightly different meaning which is always good when wanting to know

    "how to make the difference between X and Y"

    No because imagine that someone asking me to record Italian sentences, he would be working with a dump , record the sentence , the audio file will include inside the ID of the sentence

    and when I will import the data, it will create a mismatch that we will certainly not see before a long time, and even when we will see it, it will require me to find time to modify it (and as you know that the kind of things I tend to not put in my priority list)

    In addition to this, I know some people who have script to get the audio using the tag dump and has audio, and then they will not be aware of that "mismatch" (especially if learner) , so still this "cascading" problem

    actually I'm preparing a little explanation post for the wall , in order to include it in the "soon-coming" Tatoeba wiki (shhhh spoiler inside) , in order after to have a place to explain all the "rational" behind the "unlink rather than ask for changing a correct sentence"

    (on a side note, that will also permit me to finally being able to host in a 'good' place the document you used to redact)

    Last things, maybe between the time you leave the comment and the time the italian sentence is corrected, someone will translate it (as some people, like me) check their comments on sentences only once a week, that can be very likely to happen
