きょうだい is usually written with kanji - 兄弟.

Yes, but 兄弟 means "brothers" only. I think, "きょうだい(in Hiragana)" could imply "brothers" AND "sisters".

In this case, 兄弟 means siblings. If you say "兄弟5人います" then it would generally mean "I have 5 brothers" though.

Daijisen: "(2) 男女の別なく、片親または両親を同じくする子供たち。また、その間柄。兄弟姉妹。「姉二人、兄二人の五人―の末っ子」「―げんか」"

Hmm, as a standard Japanese, I prefer to write here in Hiragana, even though the Daijisen says so. (Or maybe I'm not standard but too feministic?) Anyway if you think I should correct the sentence, could you please tell me how.

If you're a native speaker and aware of the dictionary definition but still prefer the hiragana, I think it's fine.
