Firstly, you failed to notice that the linked sentence is Cantonese, not Mandarin. Since you don't list Cantonese in your profile, I'm going to assume you don't know any more about whether 電車 exclusively refers to trams in Cantonese than I do.

Secondly, 電車 literally just means "electric vehicle". While trams are one common kind of electric vehicle, that doesn't mean 電車 can't also refer to trains. If you check the disambiguation page on Chinese Wikipedia https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E9%9B%BB%E8%BB%8A , you'll see that the third meaning is 通勤電聯車 (Taiwanese usage). https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%...BB%8A%E7%B5%84 Have a look at the photos. I think there's nothing wrong with translating 電車 as "train".
