Please change this back to 大家 (read たいか).
@blay_paul: I am not sure if you are native Japanese however the native Japanese speakers I have checked with concur that the original Japanese sentence is, as was my first impression, strange-sounding and would most likely have been translated originally from the English. The corrected sentence is, according to my sources, a better translation in terms of nuance. Why would you like it changed back?
I'm not a native speaker, and you don't have to change it back.
However I would suggest that if you make corrections to Japanese that isn't obviously wrong you should note something about your reasoning and/or sources in a comment.
I also suggest you fill in your profile a bit. It's usually the first place I check when I'm dubious about a change made.
You may well be right about the nuance being closer, but I'm not so sure about the older version being strange as actual usage (as seen by Google) is almost exactly the same for both versions.
64 "経済学の権威です"
12 "経済学の権威です"
13 "経済学の権威だ"
56 "経済学の大家である"
17 "経済学の大家です"
13 "経済学の大家だ"
私にとっては「大家」も「権威」もほとんど同じです。使われる度合いにも違いは無いと思います。ですから「大家」を消す理由は無く、「権威」を使った文を追加すれば良いと思います。
Thanks very much for your suggestions. As you're a far more experienced and active user than me I appreciate the guidance. Makes me think: the average native speaker making corrections to their native language most likely consults a sample of one: themselves. As a non-native speaker of Japanese I wouldn't ordinarily dare correct a Japanese sentence, however, as native-by-proxy and a sample of several Japanese opinions on the matter I thought this would be sufficient. However, your method of checking Google is also interesting. Here you have a sample of 50+ documents (unique or not) with the sample text written, presumably, by native speakers. Is an anonymous 50 or a known five more likely to be accurate? Makes me think! Thanks again for your comments.
似たような文は結構あるんです、「大家」を使う文も「権威」を使う文。
> however, as native-by-proxy and a sample of several
> Japanese opinions on the matter I thought this would be
> sufficient.
Well, the point is that nobody knows when you're a 'native by proxy' unless you tell them. ;-)
英語は苦手なんですが、native by proxy って何ですか?
かれは日本語が母語というわけではないけれど、日本語が母語である人のかわりに意見を言っていたんです。
ありがとうございます。ということは、日本語が母語であるその人の意見と私の意見は少々違うということになりますね。^^
@blay_paul good explanation of 'native by proxy', thank you.
@qahwa それはいい考えだと思います。この文を元通りに戻して、新たに「権威」を使った文を追加します。
wrong reading:
× 大家〔おおや〕
○ 大家〔たいか〕
reading is automatically generated. that cannot be fixed.
Of course I know, but I want to make everyone who saw this sentence know the correct reading.
It's too difficult for me to see mistakes in Japanese and not to comment about them.
It helps if they are reported because they can be added to the list for later correction.
