I think this sentence is grammatically OK. However, I'm not sure it may be matched with the English sentence.
I think resignation means "辞職" or "辞任" so "辞職" is OK, but cabinet means "内閣" or "閣僚". I think 閣僚 and 官僚 are different. That's why I think it's more likely "彼が辞職したので閣僚の席に空きができました" or "彼の辞任に伴い、閣僚席に空きができた". However, again, I'm not sure. @Cabo, I'm sorry I couldn't help you. I would like to wait for the other's comment.
