I found the translation in a Russian-German dictionary. According to it the two German sentences are the adequate translations for the Russian proverb (literally Fear has great eyes. In Russian)

If you add proverbs, could you please inform people through a comment that it is indeed a proverb, please. it is not always obvious, if it doesn't exist in other languages...
