Unlink? I suspect this one is for "aware", not "awake".
"awake" also means "farkında". So I don't need to unlink. Thanks:)http://tureng.com/search/awake
So "Farkındayım." can mean "I am not asleep" in Turkish?
No, I am aware and I am awake mean "farkında",bilincinde"
Hmmm, in English "aware" and "awake" have different meaning.
Being aware = know something,
Being awake = not being asleep.
Read the second Turkish sentence: "Uyanığım." This is my sentence.
"Uyanığım" means "I am not asleep"
What's the difference between Farkındayım and Uyanığım then?
I am awake means "farkındayım,bilincindeyim, biliyorum, uyanığım, uyumuyorum."
I am aware means "farkındayım, bilincindeyim, biliyorum."
So, can "Farkındayım" be said by someone who's not asleep?
Is this a valid example:
"Canım, sen uyuyor musun?"
"Hayır, farkındayım."
Sana sözlük adresi gönderdim. Neden oradan bakmıyorsun. Ben sana awake'in "uyanık" ve "farkında" anlamlarına geldiğini söylüyorum. Neden hala anlamıyorsun? Her iki şekilde de çeviri yapmışım. Sözlük kullanmayı bilmiyor musun?
I am sorry if you got angry because of me.
Of course I can use dictionaries myself. But dictionaries may have mistakes. Besides, dictionaries without examples may lead someone into making a mistake. That's why I wanted to ask you (as a native speaker) to check whether my example in Turkish sounded natural.
Duran's traslation would be correct if the English sentence were "I'm awake to it."
As Inego said:
Being aware = know something
Being awake = not being asleep
(From LDOCE)
be awake to something
to understand a situation and its possible effects
SYN be aware of something
E.g.: Too few people are awake to the dangers of noise pollution.
I also suggest unlink or change to "Ben uyanığım."
Diyalog olarak düşünürsen awake'ten sonra bir şey söylemeye gerek yok.
A- There are a lot of black clouds in the sky. It's going to rain soon.
B- I am awake/I am aware.
I won't unlink or change it. My second sentence is "uyanığım."
Where have you found this English dialog? No one will ever answer "I am awake" being told it's going to rain soon!
So, what do we have in the end?
The English sentence "I'm awake" is an equivalent of "I'm not asleep", and can't be used for anything else.
The Turkish "Farkındayım" doesn't mean "I'm not asleep", it means "I'm aware [of that]" or "I know [that]".
Why you persist that these phrases must stay linked is beyond my understanding.
Tatoeba, among other things, is an educational material. Would you like if people learning Turkish would say "Farkındayım" when they want to say they are not asleep?
I agree. CK's comment explains all.
