Ich habe mir gestern ...
Das kann als Auftragsdiebstahl und womöglich Versicherungsbetrug verstanden werden. :)
Oder aber es ist implizit gemeint: Ich war so dumm, mir mein Auto stehlen zu lassen.
There is some confusion here which springs from the fact that
the pattern "to have sth done" can have two very different meanings. It either means a) you ask (commission, pay...)somebody
to do sth instead of doing it yourself, e.g. I had my hair cut,
or b) it may just mean sth happened to me, e.g. I had my passport confiscated at the immigration desk. I have a feeling the English sentence above (about the theft of that car) is meant to express the latter while the German translation expresses the former. To complicate things even further, the German version may mean something different still, namely something happened to me, but I'm partly to blame for it.
Das hätte ich mir nicht träumen lassen. :)
