Neredeyse yakaladım/yakalıyorum/yakalayacağım = I'm about to catch
Neredeyse yakalamıştım/yakalıyordum/yakalayacaktım = I almost caught (but I didn't)
Using 'yakaladım' may seem weird here (it's indeed in the simple past form), but that's how it's often used with 'neredeyse' to refer to near future, especially if the sentence has a positive meaning.
Similar examples:
Neredeyse geldik = We're almost there
Neredeyse bitirdim = I'm almost finished / I'm about to finish
