Opino que la frase con «estará» corresponde mejor a la frase en inglés. Me parece más natural.
Mi duda queda en si es necesario utilizar el pronombre «el» si en español la frase «Me pregunto dónde estará ahora» suena incluso más común. Sin embargo esta última ya existe y no sé si se justifique que existen dos frases prácticamente iguales.

the "estará" ventana is using here is not future tense for "estar", it is conditional tense.
This way it gives the sentence a better feeling of "I wonder where..."

I just want to point out that ventana's sentence should relate to the German, rather than to the English variant.
But if it's not the future tense, then it also conforms to the German, I guess.
