I don't think dropping the を is at all unusual, but it is less formal than the English sentence. I'd probably say ...
招待ありがとう。
Thanks for the invite.
How about adding ございました to that one, and putting in a new pair for 招待ありがとう/Thanks for the invite?
I was worried about the register mismatch, and also giving the impression to beginners that 招待ありがとう was fully kosher Japanese.
Sounds good to me.
