This sentence might not wrong, but I can improve it.
"子どもの頃" sounds much more natural than "少年の頃".
I prefer putting a comma after "頃" to make the entence easier to read.
"推理小説" is a more common word for "detective story".
"読みふけっていた" means "I was absorbed in reading", and I feel that "when I was a boy" is too long a period of time to use this verb. I suggest "はまっていた".
I added a new one: http://tatoeba.org/eng/sentences/show/2261608
Incidentally, according to 『広辞苑』 (one of the most authoritative dictionary), "読みふける" is an intransitive verb and should be used with "に", and I prefer saying "~に読みふける"; but some other dictionary say you can also say "~を読みふける", and this form seems to be actually more popular these days.
