While "I am a leader." is correct (I am one of many people who are called leaders), it is not true for the first translation of the original sentence ("I am a leader of this team."), since I am (at the moment) THE only person who is the leader of this team. Even examples like: "But I'm not going to kick out my chest and say, 'I'm the leader of this team, no.' There are 12 leaders on this team." should not be taken as proof that my explanation is wrong.
