@DJ_Saidez I agree that someone would more likely say "What kind of sports do you go in for these days?" because people don't generally involve themselves in so many individual sports that they can be grouped into multiple categories. However, I don't think this sentence is actually wrong, and since I adopted it rather than wrote it, I'd rather avoid changing it.
Is it "go in for" that you object to? I can find a number of sources that mention it, such as this one:
