Maybe this was so the 'automatic sentence merging script' would take effect? I'm not sure it's working though (or maybe it's not run very often).

In fact the merging script hasn't be run for a long time as we've reviewed a lot the database organization, so we first need to readapt it to the new schema

I think that perhaps both of these should be unlinked.
Are there any dialects of English where these mean "I can't walk another step?"
