The English here is strange - specifically the incorrect use of "but", don't you agree?

My layman like try: "For nothing is so beautiful to the point of revealing no defects even on close inspection."

That use of 'but' isn't incorrect, but archaic. I think 'but that' might sound better - however it may be a quote (albeit a quote that Google can't find).

Alright. It may be correct then, but if you're in the language learning phase, you're not interested in archaisms.

Also I've never seen "betray" be used like that. Maybe this is also archaic then.

I've added the archaic tag to the English sentence (which is where it belongs, not here).

I think that use of betray is probably more for literary effect than archaic - although I have seen it used like that before.
