Is the Japanese the, this or that project?

I changed it to "that", just because it fits better the Italian and the Spanish sentences that were already linked to the English one.
I should note that there is basically no equivalent of 'the' in Japanese. When English is translated to Japanese 'the' often becomes the equivalent of 'this' or 'that'.
