Hmm. Is the translation of J=>E correct?
ureshii = happy, glad
ureshikunai = not happy, not glad
ureshikunakatta = was not happy, was not glad

I don't want to change the English sentence because it has many links.
But I think that this Japanese sentence should be unlinked from the English one.
And I think that the correct English translation should be:

When she heard the news, she was not happy.
