@NNC: The explicit comparison "as go out" feels a bit odd. I'd furthermore rather use "might as well" but that may just be me.

"You may as well" sounds ok to me. Perhaps a little old fashioned (or maybe British although I'm not entirely sure, the dictionary doesn't mark it as such).
I think both "may as well" and "might as well" often drop the whole "as....do something" clause. especially in a sentence as short as this.
So I would say "You may as well stay home"
The Japanese however seems more
"It's better to stay at home than go out" a comparison rather than a suggestion or a statement than two actions are the same.
