かりに知っていれば - how does 'kari' translate to 'truth'?
かり(仮)に知っていれば corresponds to "If he knew".
The object of 知る is not mentioned in this Japanese sentence.
If English was translated from Japanese (You cannot tell which of two sentences from unknown date is older.), I think "the truth" is not a bad choice for filling the gap.
I think it's
かり(仮)に知る that got me. I've never seen 仮 used like this, so I guess i was confused.
Thanks
