I think that native Russian speakers must be able to use the vowels and the stress pattern to recognize "ого" and "его" even when the "г" is very light, as it is here.
It's "в" (almost like "w") and not "г". Maybe that's the point.
This is interesting. I always thought that "г" in the endings "ого" and "его" was pronounced just like an English "v" (other than in words like "много", where it's pronounced like an English "g"). But when I listen to a whole bunch of words, I find that in many of them it is indeed pronounced more like an English "w", though there also seems to be some variation among speakers, and even among different sentences recorded by the same speaker.
You're right. If one tries to pronounce it clearly, it would be 'v'. But in speech it can be closer to "w".
