
Should we translate 「うわさ」just as "talk"? Can it be employed without the "gossiping" connotation? (which, at least in Spain, is rather negative, therefore you normally would not refer to what you say as "gossip").
In other words: which is the connotation in Japanese?

この文は、私なら次のように解釈します。
- あの人が、昨日私たちが話していたアメリカ人です。
- あの人が、昨日私たちの間で話題に上ったアメリカ人です。
