This is just one of a number of sentences where "表す/stands for" occurs. Can you please provide a reason for the change? I know that 指す can mean the same, but it is less common.
@JimBreen
@Sim5634
@Sim5634
After you change this one back to UFOは未確認飛行物体を表す。, you can add yours as an original sentence.
So, add this...
... as a translation to this...
https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentences/show/72170
UFO stands for unidentified flying object.
@JimBreen
@small_snow @CK
Thanks🙂
Sorry to be late responding. Thanks for the comments, everyone. I should have provided more information to @Sim5634 about the issues around the sentences - I was hurrying through the changes to a large number of sentences.
@CK - it might be an idea to document somewhere guidelines for changing sentences. I have no problems with most of the changes made to Japanese sentences (around 60/week) as they are almost all useful improvements (e.g. dropping all those 私は at the front) and I wouldn't like them to be stopped, but in less obvious cases we should be encouraging people to leave comments as to why they have made a change.
