"I have known Jim ever since we were children."

But the german doesn't match either; it means: "I've known Jim since my childhood."

The Japanese isn't specific as to whether "we" were children or "I" was.

So maybe it should be "I have known Jim since childhood". Either way, the German doesn't match.
