Further corrected the English to match the French. But what is primary here?

The primary would be either the English or the Japanese. On reflection I suspect it was the English in this case (er, oops). Which means the Japanese is probably not a very good match to the English. I'm going to try for some native speaker support on the matter and be back later.

I think the original was not a 'good sentence' but was probably (for example) the caption on a photo. That would explain why it looked wrong.
