What is this sentence directly linked to "Why did you buy it?" for?

I translated both as "Por qué ..." and "Para qué...".
To me, they're very different questions. Am I right?

Yes, I also think that they are very different questions because "Para que ..." is asking the intention of the person, as to why they bought it. "Por que ...", on the other hand, is asking what caused the person to buy it.

In English "What did you buy it for?" and "Why did you buy it?" are exactly same, but it's not so in Spanish.

Maybe it's not exactly sub-standard English, but that construction can lead to ambiguities in other contexts.
Example: What did you ask for? =
1. Why did you ask?
2. What did you request?
