There are about 115 sentences with "can not".

Sure, there may be some examples of old-fashioned or archaic usage, but I don't think this is one of them.

The problem is that these sentences turn up in other places, as learning material at Clozemaster, for instance. That is arguably their problem, but anyway.

The consensus is that "can not" is at least poor usage where "cannot" can be used instead. Others go farther and say that it's incorrect (as I would). I would have no qualms about changing an unowned sentence that uses "can not" in this way, and in similar situations in the past, Trang has said that making such a change is fine. But this is an owned sentence. If CC (== CK) doesn't want to change it, based on his ability to provide sources that back up his claim, that's his prerogative. As for asking the owners of the other 100+ sentences to change their sentences, the effort does not seem justified, even though I agree that English learners should be taught to use "cannot".
