To change a sentence you first need to 'adopt' it. The second icon above the sentence (green arrow pointing to man) allows you to do that.

It doesn't hurt to be cautious and just post comments until you get a feel for the site, though.

It basically says that you are taking responsibility that it is correct (and that it is a good match to any sentence it is linked to that you understand).

It means that nobody else can change it unless you 'unadopt it' first (which prevents well meaning people accidentally turning a good sentence into one that is wrong).
