I know, it's just that I had a friend from Canada (English-spoken) right there who saw the sentence and instinctly said "no this is wrong you cannot say 'may as well', you should say 'might as well' ".
I asked her whether "may" couldn't be said, but she was positive on that. So I decided to change it.

But as non-English native I cannot say.

If you're 100% certain that "may as well" can be said, please add the sentence :)
