seemed --> seems

RJH RJH July 13, 2019, edited July 13, 2019 July 13, 2019 at 3:05:43 AM UTC, edited July 13, 2019 at 4:12:12 PM UTC link Permalink

GrizaLeono is right. The English "seemed" is in the past tense while the earlier (by sentence number) French "semble" is in the present tense.

The English needs a @change, or these sentences should be unlinked.

French sentence: #13954
English sentence: #27819

Thanks

The English sentence arrived in Tatoeba paired with the Japanese, which is in the past tense. So by fixing the French, you broke the alignment with the Japanese. I'm reverting the English to its original form. If you want a version in the present tense, you should add another sentence.

Some observations, then:

The Japanese sentence has a much higher number (#190660) than either the English or the French, so I'm not sure how the English arrived paired with the Japanese. Perhaps it was the other way around?

After I made my comment, it was the English that was changed, not the French, so the French itself wasn't fixed in any way.

I mentioned that the French and English sentences should be unlinked if the tenses stayed different. And if they do stay different, this should happen whether or not someone adds a new sentence, shouldn't it? I have no way of unlinking them myself.

unlinking French and Spanish.

#190660 has translations in present and in past tense.

I think the early number sequences were a bit arbitrary. The point I was making was that the Japanese-English pair came originally from the Tanaka corpus. I got a copy of it in 2002 and used it for dictionary examples. Trang later got it from my site and used it for the initial setup of Tatoeba.

I've now added a present-tense English translation for the present-tense French sentence, and a past-tense (imparfait) French translation for the past-tense English sentence.

Hopefully those with the power will take care of any remaining unlinking that needs to be done.
