I disagree with the change made, on two points.

1. その is more like 'that' than 'this'.

2. Japanese has no direct equivalent of 'the'. Thus English sentences using 'the' will often be translated into Japanese sentences with 'this' (この) or 'that' (その) as appropriate. Correcting the English into 'this' or 'that' is a sort of 'back-translation' as you're probably changing the original text.
