"got called on the carpet"?
Idiom referring to being sent to the (headmaster's, director's, etc.) office to be told off. Possibly originating because only that office was carpeted (OK, I'm guessing that bit).
British idiom? :-)
Never heard this idiom in my life. I am from New Zealand and we're very familiar with British and American English too.
It's not all that rare.
