@change
sykepleierske -> sykepleier

Tror du må lete litt for å finne folk som sier "sykepleierske" i dag :)

who cares what people think? and what more, those people who don't like words, are not good people

@Cabo it has to do more with how the majority of people nowadays talk
If gendered suffixes are no longer used widely in a community, then that should be reflected, it’s not about politics

https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/-ske
Interestingly, in Danish, sygeplejerske is the gender-neutral term, as sygeplejer refers to something else, at least according to that article

I can add that the main Norwegian dictionary Bokmålsordboka doesn't even list the word, and even the conservative NAOB lists 'sykepleierske' as archaic.

Ordet er nævnt i artiklen om sanitetssøster:
.https://ordbokene.no/bm,nn/sear...rske&scope=eif

En sanitetssøster er vist en hjemmesygeplejerske på dansk

The word still exists, but it may will get an archaic tag.

We are supposed to produce a good translation for sentences like
- 彼女は看護師です。
- She is a nurse.

And a good translation would use the word "sykepleier". It isn't more complicated than that my friend @Cabo. No need to bring any imaginary politics into this.

DJ_Saidez DJ_Saidez September 14, 2023 September 14, 2023 at 9:10:29 PM UTC link Permalink

Archaic sentences should be added if they would be meaningful for someone studying the language. This might include quotes from historical people or iconic books. There’d be not much use for a Norwegian learner to know that sykepleier used to be sykepleierske.
