It's not actually totally inaccurate. All those codes come from the same origins. Originally soccer and rugby were the same game. Blackheath, the world's oldest rugby club, was originally a member of the Football Association (i.e. in effect a soccer club, the word soccer being an abbreviation of association), and American football is derived from rugby.
Change to "Soccer, American football, and Australian rules football all come from rugby." and it would be accurate. Australian rules had clubs playing the game with documented rules before the UK's Football Association existed.
