When I studied English many years ago, this was a big mistake (-> then I have.) Is it now OK?

It's unowned. But with "do" google gives 14 results, and with "have" none (complete sentence). Maybe your teachers were lying to you. That could happen if they were working according to Stalinistic instructions for preventing "brain drainage". :D But, I don't think Holland or Belgium had a problem with that.
