While the closest translation is 'We like children', I'm not sure one could use that without sounding pedoee, like they could in English. In fact this sentence seems highly unlikely as the Ukrainian/Russian word for like is closer to the "find appealing" synonym. Aka something appeals to me. That car, that cigar, that house appeals to me. Though, saying "We find children appealing." does not sound quite the same. Thought I'd throw that out there in case anyone is trying to use this for learning Ukrainian.
In fact, I think you'd be far better off using "Ми любим дітей." which is "We love children" in most contexts.
Oh come on)) I was looking in vain for the meaning of "pedoee". If it has sth to do with sexual appeal, let us through the association away as the one belonging for the spoiled age. The sentence is a sentence, once grammatically correct, it could stand in the 19-c. text as well as in the 21 c.
Нам подобаються діти. Ми біологічно схильні отримувати насолоду від їх посміху та енергії. Нам властиво реагувати на їх негаразди поштовхом до захисту: інстинкт бітьківської поведінки глибоко закладений до когнитивної системи дорослої людини.
And so on, suppose a popularizing article on psychology.
I agree that in the right time and in the right place, it is valid sentence. When "Нам" refers to the human race, "We humans find children appealing." sounds just fine. We as some subset of the human race sounds odd. This phrase definitely has a place in writing, especially scientific. I just wanted to warn anyone planning on using it in day-to-day conversation.
I don't know, maybe it varies by a region, but I definitely think it could be misinterpreted within certain contexts and think it's just safer to go with "Ми любим дітей" for most speakers. I know Tatoeba doesn't likely cater to language learners, but I know some like it, like me, for just that.
