It's clearly correct but antiquated. 'need not' is rather lofty and 'needn't have come' isn't used as widely as it used to be, now, especially in the US.

The sentence is fine. I don't think it's antiquated in Australia, but I'd go for "needn't" instead of "need not".

I have adopted it and will change it to "needn't". As the meaning's the same, there shouldn't be any need to put a note on the direct translations.

Out of curiosity: "need not" might have been antiquated or at least poetic, do you think?
