The Japanese sentence says "suddenly" and "on her free day". Unlink or change?
@small_snow
休みの日に could mean on holiday perhaps.
As CK says, 休みの日 could mean on holiday, too. I've removed only 突然 and adopted it. :)
> As CK says, 休みの日 could mean on holiday, too. *(You left out "perhaps.")
I personally would more likely say "on her day off" for 休みの日に, I think, if referring to something like a Sunday or a national holiday.
@Sundown, there is a difference between "on holiday" and "on a holiday", isn't there? Could this sentence just mean "time off"? I suspect it means something more like going somewhere for a vacation.
@CK Yes. I'd understand this sentence as referring to someone who fell ill after they had gone away from home on holiday.
Thanks for adopting the Japanese sentence, @small_snow :)
@Pfirsichbaeumchen, @CK
日本語で話していいですか?
日本文は、「自分の休暇(有給休暇など)」にも取れるけど、この例文の場合、祝日や日曜日のことを言っていると私は思います。祝日や日曜日など「(市役所や病院などが)休みの日に病気になってしまったので、(いつも行く近所の病院が開いていなくて)病院を探さないといけなかった」
英文はもしかして、
「自分の休暇の日に別の場所に行って、病気になって、病院を探している」って言う意味ですか?
@CK
Thank you for your advice.
>> As CK says, 休みの日 could mean on holiday, too. *(You left out "perhaps.")
↑↑ could を入れたので、perhapsがいるんですね。
↓↓ could を消したら、perhapsが無くてもOKですか?
As CK says, 休みの日 means on holiday, too.
>Thanks for adopting the Japanese sentence, @small_snow :)
Thank you for your lovely word.
>FROM: small_snow .... As CK says, 休みの日 means on holiday, too.
That's not really what I meant to imply.
> FROM sundown: @CK Yes. I'd understand this sentence as referring to someone who fell ill after they had gone away from home on holiday.
I think that sundown's reply to my earlier comment means that 2 of us don't really think 休みの日 equals "on holiday", but "on a holiday."
わかったような。わからないような。
英語には「休日」っていう意味の言葉が多すぎる!休みが好きすぎよww
私の頭を整理するために。
on her free dayは「土・日とは限らないけど、定期的な休み」
holidayは「会社や学校が定めた定休日・休業日(business holiday、school holidayなど)、国や地域の祝日(public holiday、national holidayなど)」
vacationは「自身が楽しむための長期休暇」
on holidayは3連休とか大型連休中
on vacationはリフレッシュ休暇中
on a holidayは「休暇中の中の1日」 [?]
ここまであってますか?
だから、Lisaさんが言われているように、日本語に一番近いのは「on her free day」でしょ?ってことですね。
けどさぁ、けどさぁ、on holiday (会社や学校が定めた定休日・休業日中。つまり、公共施設や多くの病院が休み)でも良さそうな気がするんだけど。駄目なのかな?
