J'ai peut-être tort, mais il me semble que la règle demanderait le pronom "qui" pour introduire la subordonnée relative: "On ne peut pas savoir ce qui se passera à l'avenir." Et j'aurais tendance à ne pas utiliser la locution "à l'avenir" (signifiant à partir de maintenant) mais "dans l'avenir".

Tu as entièrement raison à propos de la nuance entre « à l’avenir » et « dans l’avenir ». (Encore une fois, la BDL en parle : http://bdl.oqlf.gouv.qc.ca/bdl/...dl.asp?id=2798 ). Mais j’ai un peu de mal avec la locution « dans l’avenir », qui est beaucoup plus rare, tellement pour moi qu’elle me semble peu naturelle. Et je pense que c’est pour ça que j’avais choisis l’autre, à tort. Je corrige.
