I heard the sentence "Islam is flawless, but I'm not" from someone. It means "Don't blame my religion, but me if I do something wrong".

I think it should be "Islam is flawless, but Muslims are not", that can mean "You shouldn't blame the Islam religion in general, but only some certain Muslims for their fault".

I think the correct sentence according to 'grammatical rules' must be “Islam is flawless, not Muslims.”
Right?

I would suggest: Islam is flawless, but Muslims are not.
