This one sounds better than the other one, though.
I think it's an awkward sentence, cause it's a situation that we never would see in normal circumstances.
Sometime in the future, going through records about airplanes, and writing a report about said records, is the only place I can see this sentence being used, haha.
In anycase, what's important is the grammar structure.
After consideration I don't think the original translation was wrong. "It was written that" is just too literal, and not natural enough.
