This is a little strange.

Yes it is

DeepL translates the Japanese as:
If we get involved, it's not just dross, it's chakras.

チャカ (chaka) is a slang term meaning "pistol/handgun", which DeepL translated phonetically as chakra.
ドス (dosu) means "knife" or "dagger". I think it was translated phonetically also.

So, while I can't make it more idiomatic, the meaning comes out to something like:
If we get involved with them, it probably won't be just knives, but also guns that we'll have to worry about.

@AlanF_US Can you think of a better way to express this, based on what I described? I think this really could use some editing

Mess with them, and they won't just pull shivs on you. They're probably packing heat.

Note that I don't know Japanese, so I'm just paraphrasing what you proposed.

Perfect, thanks

@JimBreen Should I leave it as is or can I change it? I don’t think this is correct without at least some punctuation.

I'd go for something like AlalF_US's version. Maybe: "Mess with them, and they won't just pull shivs on you; they're probably packing heat."
We're using this sentence pair as the key example for both チャカ and ドス, so it will be good to get it improved.

JimBreen JimBreen November 9, 2021 November 9, 2021 at 9:41:45 PM UTC link Permalink

I 've changed it already. Feel free to fiddle with it.

DJ_Saidez DJ_Saidez November 9, 2021 November 9, 2021 at 9:44:25 PM UTC link Permalink

That’s exactly what I wanted to do, thanks

チャカが出てきそう...

This doesn't really imply "packing heat," does it?
It's more like "they'll likely pull out pistols," isn't it?

DJ_Saidez DJ_Saidez November 10, 2021 November 10, 2021 at 4:43:20 AM UTC link Permalink

I think the meaning is still there

JimBreen JimBreen November 10, 2021 November 10, 2021 at 4:53:42 AM UTC link Permalink

It's highly colloquial so it may be suitable for "チャカが出てきそうだ".
