The first letter should be capitalized:
'needless to say' is often introduced as an idiomatic expression in the infinitive.
->
'Needless to say' is often introduced as an idiomatic expression in the infinitive.
However, I don't understand what the sentence is trying to say about the infinitive. The expression "needless to say" doesn't really have an infinitive per se. Is the sentence just stating that the expression uses the verb "to say" in the infinitive? What does the Japanese mean, @Pfirsichbaeumchen?
It says literally what is written here. What you assume is correct: “ein infinitivischer idiomatischer Ausdruck” in German. However, I don’t quite understand what they mean by “introduced” here. “Used” would make more sense to me.
Maybe they are trying to explain this kind of sentence: #239704. An idiomatic expression in the infinitive which can introduce a sentence like this.
