"glauben" in the context above means "to think" or "to believe".

I'm not a native of netiher English nor German, but I'm wondering if in this context "trust" doesn't have the meaning of "believe firmly"

my German is quite poor, but what would be the German to transcribe the same meaning of "trust" in this specific sentence?

Looking at the other translations, in English and Romanian, I can tell that it doesn't actually mean "believe firmly", because in both cases it's translated as: "think", which is even less strong than "believe".
Even so, my German isn't on a remarkable level either, I'd say you would have to use "vertrauen", but I'm not sure how would you have to reformulate the sentence so that it would actually get the meaning of believing firmly :o
