Traduzir 'dozens of students' por 'dúzias de estudantes' não é ser fiel ao original, é traduzir mal.

"Dezenas" traduz-se para "tens" em inglês, né?

Literalmente, sim. Mas a melhor tradução, geralmente, não é literal, mas de acordo com os modo de dizer da língua-alvo. Veja, a propósito, que no russo e no ucraniano os tradutores preferiram usar "dezenas" em vez de "dúzias".
