I suggest you either a) change it to
The word disabled might be insulting.
or b) change it to
The word fugusha might be insulting.
and add a comment stating what 'fugusha' means.
or c) make it two examples and do both.
Actually I think this is the case when annotations are allowed.
I mean, if we were to translate the text on Japanese words “in real life”, we would add such an annotation. This is not an annotation for learners, but an annotation for all kinds of readers, and it is, actually, likely to be seen in real-life texts.
So I think it can be kept as it is. IMHO.
Why should we replace a natural (correct me if I'm wrong) written sentence with a natural spoken one?
