> The South of Africa is far away.
Better:
Southern Africa is far away.

It may not be that "The South of Africa is far away" is incorrect, precisely, but the capitalization is a little old-fashioned, and I can't think of another place, other than "the South of France" (which seems to be the exception) that uses this wording. The Wikipedia page for "Southern Africa" does not give "the s/South of Africa" as an alternative name, in contrast to the Wikipedia page for "Southern France", which does list "the South of France".
