"Японский" здесь - то же, что "японский язык". Формально это субстантивированное прилагательное, но под первый пункт, думаю, подходит.
Были бы на его месте "ванная" или "прачечная" мы бы не сомневались.

Учитывая, что предложение с тире у нас уже есть, а постановка тире в данном случае всё-таки необязательна, пусть и преобладает, то не оставить ли как есть?

Я, кроме как пунктом первым, обосновать никак не могу. Но интонационно и логически мне там тире кажется очень уместным.

Как раз интонационно я не вижу эту паузу обязательной (хотя и преобладающей). По той же причине мы не ставим обычно тире после местоимений, разве нет?
Я, со своей разрешительной позиции, поставил бы только rare.

Решение в любом случае за вами.
Если "японский" выполняет роль прилагательного, тире не нужно.
Мой родной язык какой? Японский.
Если это существительное - нужно.
Мой родной язык - японский (язык).

А тег тут никакой не нужен, по-моему.
