I'm afraid it's not only Spanish. I can't really read all these languages but I suspect some other translations are literal. As you said, in some contexts it can be understood literally. Perhaps, we shouldn't unlink them. But it's always good to know that there are several meanings.
P.S. As far as I know, there is no such idiom in Spanish.
The most obvious situation to me is a person who was considered dead by mistake and who then wakes up during his own funeral. So the first question could be what's going on? And the answer would be 'that's your funeral, we all thought you were dead'. Perhaps you'd think it's contrived but I have read about such situations in the news several times.
