I think the period should go outside the quotation marks.

@Dejo: It depends on whether you want to write British or American English. American English puts punctuation inside quotes, and British English puts it outside.
Personally, I absolutely hate putting it inside when it isn't logically part of the quote (as in this case), so I generally follow the British style in informal writing. But I follow the American style on Tatoeba sentences and in school so I don't get bad grades. ;-)
